The sartorial choices of the First Family of the United States of America are a media favourite. And now that the First Family has arrived in India, what and who the ladies choose to wear will be as hot a topic of discussion as the India-US relations. While this will be Melania’s first visit to India, Ivanka, who has visited India before, wasn’t exactly applauded for her “efforts” to blend in.Unlike Michelle Obama, who landed in Delhi in 2015 in a Bibhu Mohapatra creation and has often worn outfits by designers of the countries she visited, the Trumps are more about paying subtle tributes to their hosts through their ensembles.

Fashion diplomacy in the UK
During her trip to the UK in June last year, Melania’s fashion diplomacy level was at its highest. She landed in the UK in a blouse from an iconic British brand. On the same day, for a lunch with the Queen, Melania appeared to pay homage to Princess Diana by donning a white and navy blue ensemble, a colour combination that the late princess was often seen in. The First Lady completed her ensemble with a hat. One of her dresses even featured some British landmarks, including Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
